Guide

Options is the window with every switch for sound, the picture and the controls. Press Esc to open the system menu, then click Option. Esc closes it again. Each choice is saved as you make it, so it is still there the next time you start Moo Classic.

Options looks a little different on a computer and on a phone or tablet. Each row below says which devices have it.

The rows, top to bottom

Row Devices Default What it does
Automatic Attack All On Keeps the target and your hero swinging after one click. Off, each click is one swing. See Commands and keys.
Whisper sound All Off Plays a sound when a whisper arrives.
Enhanced effects All On for a computer, off for a phone or tablet Adds the sky and weather extras: the northern lights, rain, thunder and sandstorms. Off, the sky and weather look as they did in the original.
Wheel zoom All On The mouse wheel zooms the view out. The camera does not turn.
Tap inspects (touch) All, for touch screens Off On a touch screen, a tap selects a monster or item and the buttons act on it. Off, a tap clicks, and a finger held still reads its tooltip.
Show player names All On Every player's name stands over their head. Off, a name shows only when you point at the player.
Keep computer awake Computers only On Stops the computer from going to sleep while the game runs. The screen may still switch off.
Frame rate All 60 on a computer, 30 on a phone How many frames a second the game draws. Lower is cooler on a phone or a laptop. The rate is capped on every device.
3D resolution All 100 % on a computer, 75 % on an iPhone, 50 % on an Android phone The share of the screen's size the 3D world is drawn at. The interface stays sharp. Lower is faster.
Don't download sound Phones and the browser Ticked (silent) Ticked, no sound or music is downloaded or played. Click to turn it back on, at 50 % for each sound.
Sound bars See below Silent Turn sounds and music up or down.
Close All Closes the window.

Frame rate

  • Click the value to step through the choices.
  • A computer goes 30, 60, 120 and back to 30. A phone goes 30 and 60.
  • A computer starts at 60, a phone at 30.
  • The game never draws more frames than the number you pick, on any device.

3D resolution

  • Click the value to step through 100 %, 50 % and 75 %.
  • The world is drawn at that share of the screen, then stretched to fit. The menus, windows and text stay at full sharpness.
  • A computer starts at 100 %. An iPhone starts at 75 % and an Android phone at 50 %. Raise it if the picture looks soft and your phone stays cool.

Sound

The sound bars sit under the rows. They work the same way on every device.

On a computer

Bar Controls
Master All the sound together. At 0 nothing plays.
Music The background music of the towns and maps.
Sound effects Your hero's sounds, the fighting and the interface.
Area sound Other players' and monsters' sounds, and the ambient sounds of the world.
  • Drag a bar, or click on it, to set it to any percent.
  • The mouse wheel over a bar moves it 5 % a notch. Hold Shift for 1 % a notch.
  • The bars follow loudness, not the number: a bar at 50 % sounds quieter than half the sound. Set the Master bar first, then the others.
  • At first start every bar except Master is at 0, so the game is silent until you raise one. Master starts at 100 %.

On a phone or tablet

Bar Controls
Volume Sound effects and Area sound together.
Music Volume The background music.
  • Each bar has ten steps. Drag along it, or tap it.
  • At first start both are at 0, and Don't download sound is ticked.

In the browser

The browser starts with all the sounds on, at 50 %. It has the four computer bars, and Don't download sound, which is the phone's switch.

Don't download sound

  • On a phone and in the browser, sounds and music are downloaded as they are needed, so the first download is smaller.
  • Ticking Don't download sound sets every sound to 0 and stops the downloads. Clicking it again turns every sound back on, at 50 %.
  • The computer apps keep their sound files on your disk and have no such row.

Which rows are only on some devices

Only on a computer Only on a phone or tablet Only in the browser, or on phones and the browser
Master, Music, Sound effects and Area sound bars (percent) The single Volume bar and the Music Volume bar (ten steps) Don't download sound

The system menu

Esc opens the system menu, with these rows:

Row What it does
Exit game Leaves the game. A computer quits. A phone goes back to the login screen on iOS and closes the app on Android. It counts down first, and waits until you are back on your feet if you are dead.
Select server Goes back to the server list.
Switch character Goes back to the character list.
Option Opens this window.
News Opens the news window.
Report a problem Opens the problem report, to tell us what went wrong. The screenshot is taken with it. See Commands and keys (F12).
Cancel Closes the menu.

Other things Options keeps for you

  • Automatic Attack and Whisper sound come from your character on the first start, if you have no saved settings yet.
  • Settings are kept on your computer, or in the browser's own storage. Clearing the browser's site data resets them.
  • The Frame rate and 3D resolution choices you made are kept. An older saved choice is moved to today's default once.
