Making zen

Guide

Zen pays for almost everything: warps, potions, arrows, repairs, the Moo Helper's minutes, the Chaos Machine's fees and the class quests. This page says where it comes from, where it comes fastest and what it is for, so you can pick your hunt by the zen as well as the experience.

Quick facts

Thing Value
A monster's zen pile Twice the size of the original's, and bigger the higher the monster's level
Who gets a pile Whoever picks it up, unless the party leader switched on equal sharing (Party rules)
Picking up in a town Allowed
Zen you carry when a monster kills you A share of it is lost
Zen in your vault Safe when you die
Zen by the experience rate It does not follow it: 1x experience does not make zen slower

Where zen comes from

  1. Monster piles. Nearly every monster drops a pile on most kills, as the table below shows. Hunt where monsters stand close together and the piles come in fast.
  2. The Golden Moo. The small Golden Moo drops 8 to 12 piles of about 500 zen each when it dies, in uneven sizes, so one kill is a few thousand. The Elite Golden Moo drops 20 piles of about 125,000 zen. Hit it for as long as you can: the piles go to those who fought. See Golden Moo in New maps and Invasions.
  3. A Golden Cowbell. It brings a Golden Moo of your own about once every 90 minutes while you really hunt. See the Moo Gold shop.
  4. The Golden Invasion. Golden monsters drop zen and good items, and the Red Dragon drops jewels. See Invasions.
  5. Selling to other players. The personal store takes zen on most maps, Jewel of Bless in Lorencia and Moo Gold in Devias and the Devias Wasteland. See Party and PK.

How often each map drops zen

The chance that a kill drops a zen pile, read from the server's own drop tables. A pile grows with the monster's level, so a lower chance at a higher level can still pay more.

Map Monster levels Zen on a kill
Lorencia 2 to 19 77 to 92 in 100
Noria 3 to 18 77 to 93 in 100
Devias and Devias Wasteland 20 to 52 67 in 100
Dungeon 19 to 55 67 to 78 in 100
Lost Tower 47 to 66 about 67 in 100
Atlans 43 to 108 about 67 in 100
Icarus 75 to 108 65 to 67 in 100
Aida 62 to 117 about 67 in 100
Tarkan 72 to 93 31 in 100
Kanturu 95 to 129 91 to 94 in 100
Promiseland 62 to 137 31 to 94 in 100

Tarkan gives the fewest piles for its level. Kanturu gives the most. For the crowded places to stand in, see Where to hunt.

What zen is for

  • Warps cost zen by map. See Warps and the Where to train table in Getting started.
  • Potions and ammunition are cheap, and it pays to carry more than you need.
  • Repair costs zen by item; a broken Dark Horse or Dark Raven costs twice as much. See Jewels and upgrades.
  • The Moo Helper costs zen for every minute it runs, and more for each feature you turn on. It is worth running where the piles come fast.
  • Chaos Machine mixes charge a fee, for example 3,000,000 for Fruits and 5,000,000 for second-level wings. See Chaos Machine.
  • Class quests charge a fee for each change, up to 7,000,000. See Class quests.

Tips

  • Bring the zen home: put what you do not need in the vault, because a death takes a share of what you carry.
  • Run the Moo Helper where the zen chance is high and the monsters are close, and stop it when the piles dry up.
  • A good party is worth more than a good spot: with equal sharing on, every member who stands on the same map takes a share of each pile.
  • The Golden Moo is the best zen for its level. Join one even if you are not hunting.
